The first paddle tennis club in Peniche has opened its doors.
With a total area of 1800 m², it will have an academy dedicated to teaching paddle tennis to all ages, “from four to 99 years old”, which is the project’s main mission.
It also includes a bar area where healthy snacks will be served, promoting a balanced lifestyle. The five indoor pitches, all with glass walls, are available to rent from €40. More information on conditions and prices is available online.
Highlights
One of the highlights of the space is a mural signed by the artist Carlos Vala, in homage to Professor Nuno Bello – an important figure in the region who died in 2023.
“He was my secondary school teacher and coach of the volleyball team. He made an unparalleled contribution to local sport, founding the gymnastics department in the 1970s and organizing the first triathlon event in Portugal. I wanted to pay tribute to him in this first paddle tennis venue in Peniche.”
Entries can be made in person, by visiting the club, or via social media. With regard to the future, João has ambitious plans: “I want to contribute to the development of the sport, especially among young people, where there is a lot to be explored in schools. And given that Peniche is already a tourist hub linked to surfing, I believe there’s room to attract this audience too.”
João also emphasizes that his main goal is “to turn the club into a national reference, both for the excellence in the management of the sport and for the way we relate to those who visit us.”
